Soul Enchanted

I am thrilled to release my new painting, incorporating my latest favourite bird design, and a motto my Dad taught me when I was a child- Dare to be different. My dad used to say that to me whenever I needed a little push to be courageous growing up. Actually, as I am still growing up, he still says it to me.

Watching my children grow and navigate their way through their school-yard years, seeing the challenges faced with fitting into peer groups and the need for a strong sense of self, I am reminded of the phrase that gave me courage to follow my own path. Sometimes daring to be different is as simple as that – not feeling the need to prove yourself or follow the group. This comes from having a strong sense of self.

Nature is wonderous and beautiful. I delight in bright and interestingly patterned animals and plants. One day, when I was going through a collection of wrapping paper scraps, I noticed and loved the way the different colours and patterns played against one another- like a collage. So I filed that idea away in the art pocket in my brain to use when the moment called for it. Dare to be different – Birdie was that moment.
